SFC Jamie H. Otts

SFC Jamie Harold Otts, 41, was a Special Forces Instructor assigned to Company A, 1 st Battalion, 1 st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina. SFC Otts was born in Amory, Mississippi on January 1, 1977. After enlisting as a combat engineer in September 2000, he served two combat tours, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. In 2006, SFC Otts graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was then assigned to 3 rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served as a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant. While assigned to 3 rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), SFC Otts deployed again in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM as well as multiple training missions throughout Central Asia. He later served as a teacher and mentor for Initial Entry Soldiers as an Infantry Drill Sergeant at Fort Benning, Georgia. SFC Otts then returned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a Senior Instructor in 1 st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne).

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, the Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Valorous Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Citation, Special Forces Tab, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Military Freefall Jumpmaster Badge, and Master Parachutist Badge.

He is survived by his wife, Crystal; their sons Tyler and Dakota, daughter Harley; his parents Harold Otts and Teresa Bynum; his brothers William Hester and Josh Otts, and his sister Kayla Bynum.
